A couple of crackers for Fireworks Night!  Well, no not really. More like a couple of damp sparklers for Bonfire Night. This is at least more akin to how I remember the occasion to be honest. Freezing cold, huddled round a pathetic little fire at the bottom of a mate's garden, being force-fed baked potatoes and stamping my feet whilst his dad pinned the star item to the fence - a catherine wheel - which after several failed attempts to light it, whizzed into life, took three desultory turns, flew off the fence and flailed on the ground, fizzing like a dying fly in a conservatory. Happy days.

Strong favourite here. And stronger than I was expecting, even given the non runner. The rest of the field is mighty weak. Alzammer the only one my pen lingered over. Would make a nice ew double with something, but I couldn't find anything and, buoyed up by yesterday's winnings, found myself clicking on buttons despite my best intentions.
Alzammer 6pts ew at 8/1

I'll settle for a distant third - not a great bet, no harm done.

Mendip Express is a conundrum here. Plainly a classy chaser, but two poor runs to end last season and his only run over hurdles was poor. He could outclass these, if ready, but I'm surprised he's so short. I'd rather dutch the two solid opponents at roughly the same price (better than 3/1 available if you have the accounts).
6pts Masterofdeception at 3/1
6pts The Tourard Man at 3/1

Mendip Express did indeed outclass them. A nice pipe-opener for him.

Off for a couple of days now - back Saturday.

Running totals
Out 214 pts
In 338 pts
