Having backed Es Que Love last week, I think I'll be against him back up to a mile and at the prices this week. I might dutch Kitten on the Run, Snowboarder and Sam Sharp at odds against - I make them Evens - but Snowboarder's weakness in the market is mainly making that book for me. Watching brief for now.
Dutched my three in the end, slightly skewed to Kitten. Equivalent to an Evens winner. Snowboarder's weakness OK - a reminder that a drifting Godolphin horse needn't be off-putting.
I respect Waila and backed her in the Ribblesdale. Might save. Whippy Cream looks a big price to me, but weakness a worry. No idea what Soho Dancer is doing in here, probably trying to nick some black type, would have been interested in an each way bet before Bolivia was taken out. Watching brief for now.
The money for Waila rather screamed at me, as did Whippy Cream's weakness. Should have saved earlier on Waila and should have reduced on Whippy, who has a soft ground action. Soho Dancer did well for third. I had a saver on the betfair place market at 6/1 (three places), which made the race a break even, despite playing the win market poorly.
I don't much like the horses from Meydan off a break and at the prices much prefer Godolphin's second string Ocean War. Suroor 1-14 in this race puts that into perspective. Al Waab's been off since May, but could bounce back from whatever was wrong. Could dutch both at around 7/4. Watching brief for now.
Need to reconsider prejudice about Meydan horses. It seems more that they need a nice break - could be plenty more on the way. Backed Al Waab despite weakness and ran well. Ocean War ran poorly. Jockey chose right.
Small field race looks tailor-made for Hamza to make all. Back Hamza at 11/4.
Think jockeyship made all the difference here. Hanagan didn't let Hamza dictate and left him isolated. Didn't think Heerat would win over 6f here, only positive I can take is that I had 11/4 about a 2/1 SP.
I'm mindful that this race is historically one for the head of the market. That said, I only give the font two 50% of the tissue, impressive as both were last time out. I'm a fool for horses like Chiquita, especially with Murtagh on board. And for Bolger outsiders. Pricewise already cocked up the latter, and we should be able to wait until later for Chiquita by which time we'll be waiting on a life-changing accumulator. Or digging ourselves out of a hole.
No doubles running on, which was a shame. Chiquita well-backed during day so lost a point as well. Wonderful ride from Murtagh in a paceless race that didn't suit the faves. Also had small bet on the Bolger horses at 20/1 - went off around 10/1 and ran well. A nice race to end day.
Kitten on the Run 5/1
Whippy Cream 5/1
Al Waab 8/1
Should have found a double really.
Overall. 80 points out. 114 points in.
