Let's take on the favourite at the price and hope she isn't fully wound up. She's hardly ahead on figures as it is, potential and trainer making her so short. Emily Gray looks solid. Last Supper is a hopeless flat horse who sprang an 80/1 surprise last time in a terrible race. Probably a fluke, possibly not. I'll pay a bit to find out.
Emily Gray 9pts win at 11/4
Last Supper 3pts win at 12/1
The fave's a nice horse and did it well. Quinn's got a good one there.
Venetia Williams had a great day here last year, up to which point her horses had been running terribly. They've done well this week. Of her last 8 runners in this race, 2 have won and 5 placed. So Stone Light has to catch the eye at the bottom of the weights, with no other obvious reason to recommend it.
Stone Light 6pts ew at 14/1
Well, Venetia chose the previous race to show her form! Stone Light ran OK, a bit free early. Thought she'd make the frame at one point. Worth keeping an eye on.
2:30 Down Royal
Boston Bob a worry obviously. Doubt he'll be fully wound up though in a race Mullins hardly targets, and these Gold Cup chasers aren't superstars at the moment. Ma Filleule's allowance is a huge help here. Am a bit worried Barry Geraghty's gone to Ascot instead. Love Rocky Creek, have to save.
9pts win Ma Filleule at 7/2
3pts win Rocky Creek at 9/2
Barry's absence proved pertinent. Mullins thinking longer-term also. Fitness told big time. Given the prices I played at could easily have left this race alone. Poor.
Think this would be my bet of the day. Ok, At Fishers Cross has a rock solid odds-on chance and I'll probably look a fool, but I Iike this sort of race. He's hardly a winning machine and could get caught in a tactical battle here. Cole Haren is always going to struggle trying to make all in the big festival races, but it should play to his strengths here. I took 4/1 last night, but reckon 3s is still a good bet.
Cole Harlen 12pts win at 4/1
That's more like it. Should have made it my only bet of the day. Or bet more - yadda yadda yadda. Still, Cole Harlen did it exactly as it was in my mind's eye and even went off at the 9/4 I priced him at. Saves the day.
Silviniaco Conti should win. Evens seems short though, and I've enjoyed opposing short ones in this race over the years. The penalty isn't easy to concede, and there's a couple of young pretenders. The going gives them both a decent chance of staying plus they should be fit
Taquin du Seuil 8pts win at 9/2
Double Ross 4pts win at 14/1
Menorah. Blimey. Hobbs done well there. Better than me. Hate getting the short-priced favourite beaten and not collecting. Double Ross ran a cracker.
That was the usual tricky Charlie Hall day, with fitness such an unknown factor. Glad I spent it at the cinema, instead of dribbling away money and getting frustrated, and I certainly didn't have as bad a time as Ben Affleck did in Gone Girl!
60pts out and 60pts in. Honours even.
