Goodwood - Wednesday

Didn't have time to post yesterday, which looked a shame when I had the first and second in the opening race. It was all downhill from there though...

Sussex Stakes
Today we have what I call an "Olaf Beyer" bet. This is where a race is hyped into a duel, allowing a pretty solid third option to go off at inflated odds. The last big example I can recall was Imperial Commander beating Denman and Kauto Star. Declaration of War fits the bill here. He may not be quite good enough, but he's well poised to take advantage if the race becomes a stamina test, and if the jockeys of the main two spend too much time looking at each other - just as Coe and Ovett did all those years ago.  Declaration of War 5/1+

Now that was a proper race. Called all three of the principals the winner at some stage, Gregorian way back in third - form rock solid. Kevin Manning not as attuned to Goodwood as Hughes. Luckily for me, I saved on Toronado when he drifted.

I can't see much else early doors. I'll definitely back Broxbourne as long as the ground isn't soft, and maybe oppose Excess Knowledge with a few in the Gordon Stakes.

Broxbourne a lovely winner to set the day up. And a bit lucky to grab an Evens dutch against Excess Knowldge, who ran a lovely St Leger trial. A better day.

Out 39pts.  In 81pts.
