Time to ditch the flat and turn to the jumps. Quietly.

1:55 Aintree
A general rule for the season is to go Irish, so let's kick off that here. 3pts win each Liberty's Gift and Star of Aragon and a forecast.

No good - then the Irish win the very next chase on the card.

3:05 Aintree
Viva Colonia looks a solid improver - 16/1 too big - 3pts each way.

Better. Didn't look like he wanted to go by in truth, but will take the place money.

Nothing else merits a single. Chuck some doubles at some sneaky lurkers and rogues.
2:30 Aintree  Triggerman
3:05 Aintree  Viva Colonia
3:35 Chep     Timesremembered
4:00 Chep     Lamb or Cod
4:45 Chep     Cornas
4:50 Aintree  Yesyoucan

Timesremembered gave me a nice return and three free bets. Lamb or Cod made a mistake at a key moment. Don't suppose it mattered. Had worse days.

There was a time I was closed down or limited by all internet bookmakers bar Ladbrokes and Corals, (with whom I hardly ever bet because their prices were terrible).  And not just in my own name.

Now, hardly a week goes by without Bet365 giving me a free £5 to play with.
Look on my works ye mighty and despair.

I think I'll just stick to hopeful doubles today, and darts in the Cesarewitch, (a lucky race) where I find myself drawn to the Charlton runners.  And to the Henderson runners.  And Pallasator.  And Murtagh.  Oh fuck it....

Well, obviously I didn't pick Scatter Dice. I did play the novice chase at Chepstow, dutching Balder Success and The Romford Pele, and I backed Mushir. And War Command. And a few losers.
"I think I'll just stick to doubles today..."  my indiscipline paid for once.

Here we go again.

Blind patriotism providing value opportunities, as England set out to qualify for the World Cup.

1/3 to beat Montenegro is a silly price. Sure we could steamroller them, but we haven't the last three times they've met, and you couldn't possibly say Montenegro were lucky in any of those games. England maybe.

We haven't beaten anyone of note in this group - which has seen all the top teams drawing with each other.
The draw at 4/1 is massive. And if it's tight you can lay off. I'll even have a small tickle on Montenegro in case they score first.

And I've already backed Ukraine to win the group.

Of course I'll be happy as anyone else for us to wrap it up nice and early. But, as ever with England, it's one of those bets where I can't see a downside.

It seemed obvious to me that Novellist was going to win the Arc, under Johnny Murtagh, in the week I finally became a novelist! That's the thing with the gambling gods - they hate bad spellers...

That aside I'm scratching around today, after a busy week. So a quiet day.

Cumberland Lodge
Royal Empire is solid, would have though he should be favourite, despite the penalty. Mijhaar likes it soft, goes well fresh and may just get a soft lead -  8pts win at 8/1.  4pts win Royal Empire at 4/1

Ok - my notes on the winner, in full: "DOG". Fuck it.

3:50 Ascot 7f handicap.
Throw some darts. Most the ones I like have no real form on soft though. Thought Pacific Heights ran OK last week. Drifting badly this morning but worth 3pts ew at 40/1.

They weren't Phil The Power darts, that's for sure....

Doubles - could do worse than Murtagh doubles at Newmarket.
Or chuck in Intello on the Arc with the Ascot horses.

Treve. Impressive, Fillies in the autumn, and halfway through the season it was obvious the 3 year old colts weren't a great population, but the fillies were above average. Personally I had a thumping good bet on Al Kazeem, on "value" grounds....
